Do You Have to be a Real Artist to Work in glass?

No……..but it helps! There are many kinds of products that you can make and sell that do not require drawing or painting skills. However, it does help if you have a good eye for composition, balance and so on. A good example of this is someone who decides they would like to start a glass etching business (or hobby) making mugs or drinking glasses with words or logos on them. Or, perhaps Christmas tree decorations or just personalized gifts for family and friends. There is still room for creativity even if you don’t draw particularly well. There are so many kinds of printers and stencil cutters out there that you can simply do your type setting on your computer and then make and apply your stencil to whatever you are working on. And for the record, you are not limited to glass. You can use the same materials and strategies to etch and engrave marble and granite as well as etching metals. So, with all of the corporate recognition opportunities out there, you can see where there is maybe a chance to get a piece of the pie. Or just become a popular fixture at your local reoccurring craft show.
